Week 24
It is a very interesting story. The story shows that life can be changed from one moment to another and everything needs to start all over.
Jenny and her dad Sam work very hard in the market. They get up early every morning.
After work one person gives a watch to Sam. This person has stolen the watch but Sam doesn’t know that. After a while two policemen arrest Sam and after a week they send him to Austria by the big ship “The Black Star”. So, to save her father, Jenny finds a job on the ship. She becomes a cook on “The Black Star”! For six weeks Jenny works on the ship.
One day a captain puts his keys on the table. Then Jenny takes them and liberates her dad. Then they put down a boat in the water and float away… They are thirsty and very hungry. After five days they see an island. On the island they find food and water. They name this island Tinkers Island. Sam looks for coconuts and he puts his foot on a snake, and it bites him. For six days and nights Jenny is next to him. She gives food and water to her dad. After ten days Sam is well again. Then, one morning they see a ship and it comes to the island. Sam and Jenny think it is “The Black Star”. Later three men come to the island. One man has a gun and then Jenny sees the gun and she says to him « Don’t kill us, please ». This man understands that they know English. He says « Our ship, “The Red Rose”, and we are going to America. Come with us and we can start a new life there».
The 1st of January, 1800, Tinkers leave the island.
